Blair Waldorf says, “Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and where we’d like to be.”
Now, I’m not much of a Gossip Girl, but that sounds like a statement fully representing my belief in our beloved world of style. This appreciation of fashion is something that is abundant here at CollegeFashionista, which is one reason I’m returning for my fourth semester of writing. I’ll be in charge of Indiana University’s ACCESSORIES REPORT, available every Friday. It will also be my first time writing for CollegeDormista, bringing you the latest interior design and decorating ideas. As usual, I’m ecstatic to see what this semester holds and can’t wait to see how my writing develops along with the other lovely Style Gurus.
Flipping through my old articles for CollegeFashionista, I can see a major growth in not only my writing skills, but my style. Looking at my first STYLE GURU BIO, I seem like a completely different person. I’ve gone through the bohemian phase, dabbled in classic looks, picked up and dropped some horrible trends along the way and had various hair colors. All those tries and fails have led to where I am now: just Ashley. Now I appreciate fashions that lean towards urban styles, but I don’t prescribe to one basic “look.” I prefer to bounce around my closet and try anything and everything.
With the New Year of 2014, I decided to create a new fashion resolution — goals to develop my style and create a dream closet. I wear quite a bit of black, so one focus is to add a little color to my wardrobe. I hope to have one item that pops per outfit, making my look fun and maybe even inspiring. I want to expand my sense of style and try different silhouettes. I urge all you Fashionistas/os of the world to do the same. Dare to be different. Don’t be afraid to make a statement and try on anything and everything, even if it’s something you wouldn’t dream of wearing. You may be pleasantly surprised.
