STYLE GURU BIO: Arielle McManus

Hello fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Arielle, and I’m crazy excited to be writing for CollegeFashionista for the first time ever this summer!

I’m going to be entering my sophomore year at the Fashion Institute of Technology this fall. I’m majoring in Fashion Merchandising Management and minoring in Spanish and Math.

As a student at a fashion school in New York City, I see all of the hottest trends from the pages of fashion magazines translated into streetwear. Nothing is considered to be too crazy or “out there,” and my peers are willing to try almost any trend they see, which makes style at the Fashion Institute of Technology really fun!

Before moving to Manhattan, I lived in Long Beach where the style is very casual and beachy. I have also traveled a lot, and I’ve spent the majority of my summers in Stockholm, Sweden. Living in these different places has given me a great sense of how fashion plays into the everyday lives of people around the globe.

I’m excited to share my perspective of New York City street style with all of you this summer, and I hope you’re excited too! I feel like summer fashion is the most functional (I don’t know about you guys, but it’s already over 85 degrees here in the city!), and I love how people start to wear more color.

Here, I’m wearing a flowy silk skirt from Club Monaco with an oversized rag & bone silk tank. I layered a printed jacket over my tank to protect me from any chilly breezes. I got it at H&M, and I think the print juxtaposes with the grid pattern of the skirt really well. A pair of fuchsia heels adds a bit more color, and now I have an outfit that is really comfortable but full of pattern and color.

Get ready, because you’ve never seen New York fashion this fun, colorful and lively before!
