STYLE GURU BIO: Anna LaPlaca

Ciao to my fellow fashion lovers and stylish college students! I am just about to finish up my second year here at UCLA (halfway done? I can hardly believe it) majoring in Communication Studies and minoring in Italian language and culture.

Excuse me for a moment while I’ll admit to the cliché “time flies when you’re having fun” phrase, but I can’t help believing how true it really is. This semester marks my fourth one interning with CollegeFashionista, and what an insane and fast year it has been. I went from a clueless freshman, intimidated by the thought of asking a stranger for their photograph, to ultimately setting my sights on the fashion industry as a whole—one post at a time. I love writing, photographing and scoping out the latest in trends for CollegeFashionista because it truly is a passion of mine; it’s something I genuinely enjoy and look forward to doing.

As for my personal style, I’ll admit to allowing my Southern California surrounds to influence my clothing choices. Since moving to L.A. for school, I’ve certainly adopted a more laid back, beachy vibe to my style. Denim cut-offs and Birkenstock sandals have basically been put on constant rotation in my wardrobe. But I’m more than ready to swap them out for more polished essentials like a leather jacket and strappy heels to better fit the modern aesthetic akin to the fashion mecca of the country: New York. Case in point, matching two-piece sets like this top and skirt combo from NASTY GAL, which I’ve been living in as of late. They instantly make an outfit and can be worn dressed up or down.

As I count down the last few weeks of school left until summer break, I’m gearing up for an incredible summer spent on the opposite coast, interning with Michael Kors’ editorial department and CollegeFashionista’s marketing team. Here’s to hoping that my New York experience is anything but a scene from The Devil Wears Prada.

Don’t forget to check back every Tuesday as I document all the rad campus and street style stars from coast to coast!
