STYLE GURU BIO: Anna D’Acierno

Hey everyone! I’m Anna and I currently a freshman at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. I want to start off by acknowledging how stoked I am to be a Style Guru! I hadn’t always planned to pursue a career in fashion and then I saw The Devil Wears Prada. I love to write and I love clothes. I love the empowerment that can be brought into people’s lives by fashion. While I believe it is important to not become overly materialistic, I also believe it is important to embrace the confidence that personal style can bring.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A lot of people ask me how I ended up at Virginia Commonwealth. I came here to visit my cousin when I was 13 and I think I always knew that this is where I would end up. He too took a major interest in fashion and now lives in New York City. He inspired me and I hope to follow in his footsteps. Richmond has to be one of the coolest cities I have been to so far. It has this eclectic vibe that is continuously evolving with new styles and art. I am so thrilled that I am getting the chance to live here.

Throughout my life, I have definitely swayed between a variation of styles. I think it’s important to travel through different periods of style. Even if those styles end up on What Not to Wear in the future. Throughout my phases of fashion, I have always found a love for classic and timeless pieces. For instance, a black dress is a staple item and always will be. I also stand by the idea of comfort. I personally find it hard to feel confident without comfort.

Recently, I have taken a great interest in the ’90s mom look. I love high-waisted jeans paired with a turtleneck. A trend that has caught my eye the most lately is wearing sneakers with a less sporty outfit. A lot of people probably are wondering why I would want to look like a ’90s mom, and I’m not sure why either. It’s totally okay to not have a reason for your style! If you like it, you like it. Around campus you can find me with my retro headphones on at all times. I never like to miss a beat in between classes!

I am beyond thrilled to bring these styles to life on CollegeFashionista. It is such an honor to be able to work with such talented people. I am also looking forward to improving my writing skills. Each part of this opportunity is bringing me one step closer to my future.
