Hello there, Fashionistas/os! My name is Anna Coke and I am a senior at the University of Kentucky majoring in Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles. Unbelievably, this is my final semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista—and truth be told, I’m shedding a few tears as I write these words.
The past six semesters with CollegeFashionista have been some of the most exciting years of my life. Although I transferred to the University of Kentucky from Savannah College of Art and Design as a shy, unhappy sophomore, I’ve grown to truly love where I am. While I like to think that I have some drive of my own, I know that I would not have experienced half of the things I have today without CollegeFashionista. From spending a summer interning at Stuart Weitzman in New York, to participating in amazing partnerships with companies like MTV and Aerie to meeting and becoming friends with the awesome and inspiring CF team, my life has become a crazy whirlwind of adventures—and I owe it all to CF.
As a college senior, I still don’t know where I’m going or what I’m going to be when I graduate. While the beginning of college was a scary, confusing blur, it seems like the end of college might be becoming even more so. However, I can honestly say that through approaching strangers, meeting new Style Gurus and working for the ever-inspiring Amy Levin, I’ve become more confident, more prepared and more sure of my love of fashion than ever.
With all of that said, my time as a Style Guru has been more than just monumental life lessons and sappy Hallmark sentiments. In fact, it has been a blast. I have loved every second of meeting Fashionistas around my campus and across the country, because, to me, there is nothing more fun than talking about fashion with others who share in my appreciation. And while I’ve dared to venture out of my clothing comfort zone a few times, I’m starting to realize that simplicity is almost always the answer when it comes to clothing—or in other words, a great pair of jeans and a black shirt will never do you wrong (and neither will a fantastic pair of shoes).
Six semesters ago, I was the only Style Guru at the University of Kentucky. Fast forward to last semester, and we had 15 Style Gurus representing UK—and I could not be more excited. This semester, I’m ecstatic to have the privilege of meeting even more new Style Gurus from my very own college—because nothing makes me happier than knowing that my love for CollegeFashionista is being shared by the Big Blue Nation.
