STYLE GURU BIO: Anna Coke

January 5th, 2015 at 2:11am

Hello there, Fashionista/os! My name is Anna Coke and I am a junior at the University of Kentucky majoring in Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles with a minor in Journalism. I am thrilled to say that I am coming back for my fourth semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista—it’s hard to believe I’ve been doing this for a year!

In the past 12 months, my experience with CollegeFashionista has evolved into something I could never have imagined. Cliche as it sounds, it has truly changed my life. Only a year ago, I was a shy transfer student struggling to find my niche at a new school. Fast forward three semesters, and I can honestly say I’ve never felt more at home.

Like many other students, I came to college not knowing exactly what I wanted to do with my life. Needless to say, I knew I wanted to do something in fashion; however, exactly what that “something” was had yet to be determined. Switching colleges only added to my confusion, and mid-sophomore year I found myself feeling pretty lost and more than a little scared. Then I started CollegeFashionista.

I have learned so much during my time in this internship. And while it has undeniably helped me figure out my future, it has helped me figure out myself as well. Through this experience, I’ve discovered that the most important thing in life is passion. My confidence has grown and my style has evolved during this internship, but the passion I have discovered for writing and fashion through CollegeFashionista is something that will drive me for the rest of my life.

With all of that said, my time as a Style Guru has been more than just monumental life lessons and sappy Hallmark moments. In fact, it’s been a blast. I have loved every second of meeting Fashionistas around my campus and across the country, because to me there is nothing more fun than talking about fashion with others who share in my appreciation. I’ve even dared to venture out of my clothing comfort zone, discovering a hidden love for accessories and finding new ways to style my typical all-black ensembles (calf-length sweater and leather pants, anyone?).

Truth be told, thrilled doesn’t even begin to describe how excited I am to begin another semester with CollegeFashionista. Whether I’m creeping on stylish students, chasing down Fashionista/os for my next article or waking up at the crack of dawn to finish my post at the last second, I know I will love every second of it and continue learning more about fashion and about myself every day.
