STYLE GURU BIO: Anjali Patel

Hello there! My name is Anjali Patel and I am currently a rising sophomore majoring in Biology at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am so excited to showcase the VCU students this semester who incorporate the diversity of Richmond into their outfits!

I am not studying fashion in school, so I am thrilled to have this opportunity to express my passion for fashion as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. At a young age you would always find me dressing up and trying out new looks in my room. I went through many fashion stages in middle school and high school as I have been through the Aeropostale- labeled-everything-look, the surfer gal look, the hipster-boho look and the dark vampy look. I still continue to not have one particular “look” that defines my fashion. I like to try out new styles and wear whatever complements my mood and makes me feel like myself. I also love experimenting and mixing patterns to see what unique looks I can create.

My family and friends constantly come to me when in need of fashion advice or an outfit to borrow. I enjoy helping people pick out outfits that they can expresses themselves through. I always tell people to not be afraid and to be spontaneous when shopping. If you feel good in your clothes you look good! After all fashion is just another way to express yourself! Your clothing should be embedded with your personality.

I styled my outfit today with the idea of spending the day outside hanging out with friends. I wore a Paisley printed flowy Kimono with fun pops of coral over a simple black tank top tucked into slightly high-waisted jean shorts. I finished my outfit off with a long necklace with popping charms.

I stumbled upon CollegFashionista on a Facebook friend’s wall, and became hooked to reading articles daily ever since! I am so thankful to have this opportunity to be a Style Guru, and I hope all you Fashonistas/os find my columns interesting and engaging. Till next time!
