My name is Angelene Coates and I am a sophomore pursuing a major in advertising here at Penn State University. This is my first semester interning for CollegeFashionista and I am truly blessed to have been given this amazing opportunity.

For as long as I can remember, fashion really has been my passion in life. I remember always having to have the latest Abercrombie and Limited Too styles as a kid, trying to make a statement as I walked through the doors of Mt. Carmel elementary school. My mom trained me from the start to always try and look my best no matter what the cost. I have her to thank for the love and dedication that I have for this industry. She may not know it, but she is my inspiration. If you were to ask anyone that knows us well, they will tell you that we are one in the same regarding looks and personality. As they always say, “like mother, like daughter.”

I attended a very small Catholic school in Warren, Ohio. I graduated with a class of 52 people. I was required to wear a uniform my whole entire life, so for me, the best way to express myself was through accessories. My favorite part of going back to school was being able to go shoe shopping. Since accessorizing was the way to add some style into my school girl uniform, I had to take full advantage of it. As ridiculous as this sounds, I remember trying to start a new trend of wearing ankle socks with flats instead of knee highs. I thought this was the coolest thing ever (#privateschoolproblems). It wasn’t until college that I truly found myself and started to create my own personal style. I love being able to now go to a school with so much life and uniqueness within the students and all around campus. Being able to find inspiration in everything around me is truly amazing.

My style is very bohemian chic. Although this is always my go-to look, I am not afraid to step outside of this comfort zone of mine and try something a little different. Whether it be more on the edgy side in all black with a great leather jacket or a more classic look with a statement necklace and a fabulous pair of jeans, I am always looking for that one amazing piece that I could add into my wardrobe and incorporate into a new outfit. I have grown to realize that being creative is such a beautiful blessing and that is why I try to take full advantage of it at all times. College is a time to be quirky, fun and different. As Coco Chanel would say, “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” I am beyond excited to get this spring semester started with all of you beautiful people. The fun can now begin!
