Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Angela Zhou and I am a Style Guru at the University of Southern California. I am a freshman with a business major in the World Bachelor in Business program, for which I will be spending the next four years travelling to three different continents. I hope to learn about different trends and college styles around the world. This year, I will be covering the STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK column which will give you a glimpse of staple items each week at my university and how you can wear them. I am so excited to be a part of CollegeFashionista’s amazing and stylish team. Here’s a bit more about me!
I’m a SoCal native, but have lived in both Orange County and San Diego. My roots account for a closet fitting for California’s trademark warm weather and sunny winters. I currently live in Los Angeles, where I attend school, and I’ve been able to gather inspiration from the cultural aspects of the city — from the food to the music. I also enjoy learning about other students’ styles and adding parts of theirs to my own.
Much of my style matches my personality. I appreciate following current news and social issues. As a business student, I also need to network with company representatives and executives. In my free time, I enjoy reading avant-garde poetry and autobiographies, sewing, in addition to keeping up with current and up-and-coming fashion designers. As a result, my personal style can be described as professional and vibrant.
My go-to item is a fitted jacket, like a blazer as I’m wearing in the picture above. To keep things simple, I generally don’t layer as much unless it’s significantly cold outside. Instead, I wear clothes with pops of color, prints and textures while accessorizing with jewelry and handbags. My fashion weaknesses are bold watches.
I am a proud cult member of J.Crew and Ann Taylor in addition to being a loyal social media follower of J.Crew’s creative director, Jenna Lyons. I am a Maxxinista at heart (who can resist T.J. Maxx’s sweet deals?!). I’ve been a subscriber to Vogue for fifteen years and running, and like any other fashion-goer, one of my favorite films is The Devil Wears Prada. It’s hard to pull me away from my phone — I hold the world of fashion in my hands, from my mobile shopping apps to Instagram, from Facebook to magazines and books.
I first became engrossed in the fashion industry when I discovered my mother’s fashion magazines at an early age. I adored smelling the sample perfumes and flipping through the glossy pages of models styled in designer clothes from head to toe. Those experiences have shaped my career aspirations to join the admirable designers and directors the retail industry hosts today.
I will forever and always be a passionate lover of fashion and look forward to sharing my insight about college fashion at my school with all you stylish and sassy souls!
