I cannot tell you enough how ecstatic I am to be interning with CollegeFashionista this semester. Being only a mere freshman, this is an absolute dream come true for me to be representing Valdosta State University on this site. I look forward to showcasing all of the fabulous Fashionistos on campus in my column LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS.
Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” I couldn’t have said it better. Fashion is innovation. It’s taking not only the trends, but the world around you and creating a personal style. It’s making a statement not just with your clothes, but expressing it with your attitude and your personality. It’s about just being beautiful you.
For me, growing up in a small town meant growing up in a world of small minds and little fashion sense. Seeing every girl’s attire mimic the next made me fall in love with fashion. It became my escape, my creative outlet and my way of initiating my independence. However, despite the freedom it gave me, it soon made me realize I did not belong in the small town. Hence, my dream of living the Carrie Bradshaw life of journalism and fashion was formed! Since high school, I’ve not only received this amazing opportunity to intern with CollegeFashionista, but I’ve also started my own beauty and fashion blog entitled SincerelyStyled.
As for my personal style, I’m all over the place. I can never pinpoint my exact style. One day I might rock all black with motorcycle boots and another day I might go for a classic look like I did here with a polka-dot sweater, chambray button-up and nude pumps. However, one thing that remains the same with every outfit is the simplicity of each one. Like Leonardo da Vinci said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Don’t get me wrong, I do frequent the local T.J. Maxx and quite a few online shops, but I always make sure the piece I’m eying can be worn with at least three different ensembles. Not only does this save me some extra cash for Starbucks, but it also invokes my creativity. After all, that’s what personal style is all about: creating yourself.
Check back every Tuesday for the latest sighting of the stylish boys on Valdosta State campus!
