STYLE GURU BIO: Ana Mena

Happy 2017 to my fellow Fashionista/os!

I’m Ana Mena and I’m currently a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro studying apparel design and business. This spring semester will be my first with CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru, and I couldn’t be more excited about it!

Being born in Mexico and later moving to North Carolina at the age of seven played a major role in my style and influencing me to want to pursue apparel design. Ever since I can remember my great grandma and my grandma would always make our “Sunday’s Best” dresses which always intrigued me, causing me to take sewing classes so that I could also make my own dresses. To describe my style, I would say that I incorporate many vintage finds into my outfits and I also like to have a modern bohemian vibe to my wardrobe. I love prints and mixing in bold colors and floral embroidery because it reminds me of Mexico.

For the outfit pictured above, I decided to wear a pair of two-toned jeans, which is a trend that I am obsessed with at the moment! I paired the jeans with a mixed print blouse and a pair of black booties. To accessorize the look I added a burgundy felt hat and my favorite crossbody saddle bag that used to be my mom’s when we lived in Mexico. I wore this outfit to go run errands downtown and later to get dinner with friends.

As for some of my interests, I’m a distance runner and I love being outside and exploring new places with my friends as much as possible. I also love baking, and you could probably say I am a doughnut enthusiast! I love to recycle clothing whenever I can instead of having to spend money on something trendy that I could easily make for a cheaper price. My favorite fashion season would have to be spring/summer or resort because that is where you can find all the fun, bold prints that give me inspiration for my designs!

I’m beyond excited to see what 2017 has in store for me, and I cannot wait to be able to share with all of you about the different styles and trends I find on campus! I hope you all have a great spring semester!
