STYLE GURU BIO: Amani Gibbs

January 5th, 2017 at 2:00am

Hello, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Amani Gibbs and I am one of the new Style Gurus in town. Miami, Florida to be exact. This semester I will be at a different campus. I will be attending Miami Dade College in their Fashion Merchandising program, so not only will it be your first time discovering the fashionistas(os) there, it’ll be my first time too!
I’ve loved fashion for as long as I can remember and have always desired a career in the industry. As a young girl, I remember changing my mind about what type of career in the fashion industry I wanted for myself. My dream career went down many different paths in my head which included being a model, designer, fashion editor, and working in fashion PR.

At about thirteen years old, I was flipping through channels on TV and stopped when I saw a fabulously dressed blonde woman sifting through a rack of equally as fabulous clothes. It was stylist Rachel Zoe preparing for a photo shoot for her client. I continued watching her Bravo TV show, The Rachel Zoe Project, and was so intrigued and beyond excited that I could make a career out of doing one of my favorite daily tasks: putting outfits together! Since that Saturday afternoon to today at twenty years old, being a fashion stylist is my dream.
Now that we’ve gone down memory lane, let’s fast forward to the present. Sunny Miami is finally getting with the program and understanding that the season we are currently in is winter, so the temperature is dropping. This gives me the perfect excuse to bring out my knee high Steve Madden boots! The temperature was actually in the fifties and I know there’s someone living where it gets way colder than that laughing at me right not, but to us “Miamians’ this is serious stuff people!

I was scrambling to find something in my closet that can actually keep me warm when I remembered my motto: when in doubt, black it out! However, I decided to throw on this taupe motorcycle jacket over my BCBGMAXAZRIA tunic. The metallic effect of my fringe cross-body bag reminded me to add my silver choker and cuff for some extra edge.
I can’t wait to shock myself, explore, discover, and present you guys with some #RAD stuff this semester!
