Hello everyone. My name is Amanda Wu, and I am a beauty and fashion addict. I am truly the definition of a fashion junkie and couldn’t be more proud of it! This will be my first semester with CollegeFashionista where I will be writing my column, ALL IN THE DETAILS, every Friday. I am currently going into my junior year at Rutgers University with a major in Cell Biology and Neuroscience and a minor in Spanish. I am beyond stoked to share some fashion inspiration with you all this summer!
To me, style is an individual outlet of expression; it’s a fun and creative expression that changes gradually and helps to define you. Fashion changes from season to season, but style is eternal. It is important to adapt seasonal trends to your personal style, keeping it individual to yourself. I love the basics. To me, there really is nothing else you really need. Neutral colors are like a canvas that you can add anything to complete a look. Most of my ensembles are derived from basics that I adore and then are spiced up with layering, like a bold lip and/or a killer pair of shoes. Currently I am obsessed with the resurgence in 90’s fashion as well as the comeback of bohemian influences. These trends really fit into my self-proclaimed “edgy-hippie” style.
In this typical summer look of mine, I am really emphasizing the bohemian vibe with a drapey kimono-like cardigan on top of a white long sleeve tie dye t-shirt dress. I also added a pair of cleated ankle strap sandals to add an edge and make the outfit a little more grungy. To accessorize, I stacked on my favorite go-to rings and bracelets as well as my one-off amethyst necklace to give an effortless feel to the overall look.
A little about me: I have a beauty/fashion YouTube channel where I upload tutorials, lookbooks and little snippets of my life. It’s a work in progress but I love it. Traveling the world is a dream of mine. Knowing that there is so much more out there than what I am accustomed to fascinates me. One day I hope to be able to speak at least three languages fluently due to my travels. Lastly, I have a sick obsession with all kinds of DIYs. I craft like it is my job. Crocheting, knitting, sewing, woodwork—you name it! I just love having something that I can proudly say that I made myself.
This summer I hope to give you all a little inspiration from my RU peers (as well as myself) on how to change your typical summer outfit to a head-turning ensemble. Include small but powerful details into your summer wardrobe to make a statement, show just enough skin and love what you wear!
