STYLE GURU BIO: Amanda Sutherland

Hello there, Fashionistas/os! My name is Amanda Sutherland and I am super excited to be the newest addition to the Style Guru team. I am a first semester graduate student at Michigan State University. I will be beginning my Master’s in Public Relations, as well as working at Belle Row Boutique during my first semester in East Lansing.

Style and I have been in a long term relationship for a while. When I was a little girl, I always had to pick out my own outfits. I just would not settle for hand-me-downs. Every outfit had to be just the way I liked it, which usually included a choker and/or chunky shoes. The walls in my room were covered with Teen Vogue clippings. At that point, my Midwestern mother was more focused on the fact that I had so many pictures of girls hanging up in my room, rather than the fact that it was a fashion obsession.

Back then, I was mainly encouraged to be involved with business.  A career in fashion was not an option when it came to logical career moves. This led me to my undergraduate degree in Accounting. I realized throughout my four year degree that although I loved business, I needed a change. I needed a passion. I started researching what interested me. Sure, my priorities had changed since I was little, but I knew that fashion is what excited me and had me riled up.

After a couple PR maven and #GIRLBOSS books later, here I am starting graduate school for Public Relations while absorbing and gaining any fashion experience I can.

My style influencers are mainly bloggers such as Chiara Ferragni from The Blonde Salad, Luanna Perez from Le Happy and Danielle Bernstein from WeWoreWhat. I have a very norm core style with an added edgy factor that sometimes sways to boho.

In this look, I am layering a Forever 21 crop top over an Ann Taylor button-down. Underneath I am wearing BDG high-waisted dark wash jeans, which I rolled up to a cropped pant. My faux crocodile structured bag  is from Topshop and the snakeskin pointed flats are from Steve Madden.

Stay tuned for my posts this semester and don’t forget to give each article a #RAD !
