STYLE GURU BIO: Amanda Serrano

Hey there my fellow fashion friends, trendsetters and aficionados!

My name is Amanda Serrano and I am a 20-year-old infatuated with jazz, art and anything vintage. I am from beautiful and sunny Los Angeles, but currently live in San Francisco, home of dense fog and 60-degree weather. Before I continue on about myself, I think it’s important to share with you how I came to be a Style Guru at CollegeFashionista and why I chose to take such an amazing opportunity.

Fashion has been something that has taken up a lot of my life. As a young girl, I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer with her own clothing line. I would sketch basic dress designs in my school notebook and even came up with a name for my line. Ironically, I lack the most basic skill a fashion designer needs and that is knowing how to sew really well.

So, as of now I have put that fashion designer dream on hold until I master the art of sewing. However, it has not stopped me from designing dresses or creating outfits to wear. With this experience, I have developed a keen eye for what works with what, which has taught me a thing or two about styling. The cool part about being a Style Guru is that it gives people like me an amazing opportunity to not only showcase fashion on our college campuses, but allows us to feature the creative and inspiring minds behind the beauty of the fashion world. So naturally, when I heard of being a Style Guru and what it entails, I was more than ecstatic that I would be able to inspire others with not just what I know about fashion, but with what others know.

Now that you know that small background of how I came upon this opportunity, I feel like you all are ready to know more about me. Like I said before, I am a SoCal girl living in the Bay. I’m currently a junior studying Marketing at the University of San Francisco. I am a proud Latina of Salvadoran descent.  When it comes to my style it ranges on how I feel. I like to think of myself as a walking fashion mood ring. One day I can dress grunge with my favorite plaid button-down and Dr. Martens. The next day you can find me sporting a chic, yet simple look with my pair of favorite black pumps or Steve Madden booties. It really just depends on what kind of look I want to try for the day. I love to try new looks and be bold. With that being said, my inspirations range from looks hot off of the runway to celebrities to my stylish friends from L.A., S.F. and N.Y.C. Today, my look was street style inspired featuring a shift dress with a belt, tan pumps from ALDO and my favorite Nine West tote bag.

On that note, I end with something I like to say and that is fashion is for everyone and anyone. It is a world of endless possibilities. Try them all. Don’t be discouraged and don’t hold back from trying something you have never tried before. You do not have to be wearing the newest things hot off the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week runway to be a trendsetter. Be bold and be you.
