Hey fashionistas/os! My name is Amanda McKelvey. I am a sophomore Journalism major and a Psychology minor at Fairfield University. I’m so excited to be writing for CollegeFashionista.com this spring!
My personal style is mostly preppy but I get much of my inspiration from people I see on campus as well as Pinterest and blogs. If I see and outfit I like I try to recreate it from pieces in my own closet. I also feel that being from Long Island, New York has had a positive influence on my style growing up.
On campus, I try to keep things simple and comfortable for going to class, working, and running around campus. My go-to outfit this past semester has been jeans, riding boots and a sweater with a few simple pieces of jewelry like gold stud earrings and a monogram necklace.
I love to shop for pieces like these at stores like J.Crew, Forever 21, H&M and Nordstrom as well as Apricot Lane in downtown Fairfield. I like to mix more expensive staple pieces with trendy inexpensive finds from other stores.
My style philosophy is a quote by designer Yves St. Laurent, “Fashion was not only supposed to make women beautiful, but to reassure them, to give them confidence, to allow them to come to terms with themselves.” I think it is a great message that fashion should encourage women to be confident with their style and their bodies especially in a time where there is so much pressure.
I will be writing the ACCESSORIES REPORT column every Friday in Spring 2013. I am thrilled to be a part of the College Fashionista team and I can’t wait to share all the wonderful trends that Fairfield University has to offer.
