STYLE GURU BIO: Allyssa Parriott

Hello, I wanted to introduce myself to all Fashionistas currently reading this! My name is Allyssa Parriott. I reside in the beautiful city of San Francisco, California. Right now, I am working on a Bachelor’s in Visual Merchandising. However, I also have a background in fashion design. In 2012, I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Fashion Design from American River College.

I grew up listening to heavy metal and punk. My father, whom I always idolized, used to always blare Iron Maiden and The Sex Pistols on the stereo. This would later inspire my music choices when I was 16 years old. I was the lead singer of several heavy metal bands. Although I no longer play music, music still influences how I style my outfits.

Michael Monroe and David Bowie are my main two style inspirations. The outfits they create are to express who they are as artists. They are both completely fearless with fashion as well. I choose to completely express myself through my outfits. What I really mainly enjoy about fashion is expressing my individuality as a person.

I already have lots of industry experience. My first unofficial retail job started at the age of 15. My mother, who was a retail manager, would pay me to help merchandise shipment. Now I have over 10 years of retail experience. The past retailers I have worked includes: AllSaints, DSW, Mervyn’s, Urban Outfitters and T.J.Maxx.

My personal belief is keeping outfits minimal. I don’t like adding a lot of accessories to my outfits. My favorite wardrobe staple is the mini skirt. My biggest influence is from menswear fashion. For instance, details like bow ties can add a fun masculine detail to an outfit. Some people may consider minimal outfits to be boring but I always find small ways to make my outfits interesting. Hats are a great way to change a whole look. I really can’t wait to show you all the fearless and unique Fashionistas living in San Francisco!
