STYLE GURU BIO: Allison Ramirez

I’ve always been a stickler for lucky numbers, so it’s both exciting and a little heartbreaking to say that this is my seventh and final STYLE GURU BIO. It’s crazy to think that only a few semesters ago I was a sophomore stumbling through college unsure of who I wanted to be. In the midst of this crisis of mine, I heard about CollegeFashionista and felt an instant connection. With six semesters as a Style Guru under my belt, I can honestly say that I have seen myself evolve as an individual and am now a little more certain of where I want to go. Living in Southern Texas, opportunities in the fashion world are next to none; the fact that CollegeFashionista has allowed me to grow as a fashion journalist is something that I’m eternally grateful for. Through my daily hunt for savvy Fashionista/os on campus, I’ve been able to share the killer campus style that catches my eye each day, which is a constant reminder of why I truly adore fashion.

It’s hard to say exactly when it all began, but my love for fashion sparked somewhere between reading countless stacks of Vogue magazines and watching Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I’m currently a senior studying English at Texas A&M International University and I’ll be graduating this May. I have a slight obsession for kale smoothies, blogging about my style aesthetic and binge watching Skins—let’s just say my Brit slang is on point. Words can’t describe how thrilled I am to be a part of the amazing CollegeFashionista team this spring!

As one of my favorite bloggers once said: “I wear what I like and I like what I wear.”  I couldn’t possibly think of a simpler way to capture my ever-changing style, but you’ll usually find me battling the South Texas weather in a classic duster coat and a chic pair of white sneakers. During my time as a Style Guru, I’ve definitely seen my personal style evolve. Lets just say that I’m extremely thankful for this—piling on all the jewelry you own isn’t always the best idea. I feel as we grow and our perceptions change, our clothing choices follow suit, which is the driving force behind my love for the fashion industry. It’s a constant presence that evolves every day, capturing our innermost feelings and allowing us to dictate the image we project upon the world. It gives us the power to make a strike instantly, declaring who we are with a single glance.

I find fashion inspiration in a variety of different outlets, whether it be a weekend road trip to Austin, a Wes Anderson film or my ultimate style crush, Karla Derras. I must admit that some of my best discoveries, and undoubtedly those that lie closest to my heart, are those found at home on the Texas-Mexico border. Since spring is all about fresh beginnings, I can’t wait to share the killer street style from my neck of the woods this semester!
