A little over a year and a half ago, I was completely nervous, yet utterly thrilled shooting my very first Fashionista in the hopes of becoming a Style Guru. Now that I’ve experienced four unbelievably amazing semesters writing for CollegeFashionista, I must say that I’m so thankful for the truly incredible experience I’ve had thus far! Living in Southern Texas, opportunities in the fashion world are next to none; the fact that CollegeFashionista has allowed me to grow as a fashion journalist, as well as an individual, is something that I’m eternally grateful for. Through my daily hunt for savvy Fashionistas/os on campus, I’ve been able to share (and quite possible frighten a few of my peers–oops!) the inspirational campus style that catches my eye each day, which is a constant reminder of why I truly adore fashion.
It’s hard to say exactly when the love affair began, but it’s safe to say that I’ve been in love with all things fashion since my days as a toddler (this does involve the kidnapping of several pairs of my mom’s heels, of course). I’m currently a senior studying English and Communications with a divine love for caramel iced coffees, blogging about my style aesthetic and any Barbara Streisand film I can get my hands on. Words cannot describe how thrilled I am to be a part of the amazing CollegeFashionista team once again!
As mentioned by one of my favorite bloggers, “You’ve got to dig to find what you really dig.” I couldn’t possibly think of a simpler way to capture my ever-changing style (quite possibly with a mind of its own), but you’ll usually find me battling the South Texas weather in a pair of vintage jeans and a simple crop top. During my time as a Style Guru, I’ve definitely seen my personal style evolve (so long lumpy sweaters!) which is one of my favorite aspects of the fashion industry. I feel as we grow and our perceptions change, our clothing choices follow suit, which is the driving force behind my love for fashion. It is a constant presence that evolves every day, capturing our innermost feelings and allowing us to dictate the image we project upon the world. It gives us the power to make a strike instantly, declaring who we are with a single glance.
I find fashion inspiration in a variety of different outlets; whether it be my most prized consignment shop, a 1960s film or, my personal hero, The Man Repeller. I must admit that some of my best discoveries, and undoubtedly those that lie closest to my heart, are those found at home on the Texas-Mexico border. I can’t wait to capture the relaxed summer style happening in my neck of this woods this season through my ALL IN THE DETAILS column!
