STYLE GURU BIO: Allie Briggs

January 7th, 2015 at 2:00am

My name is Allie Briggs, and I am a senior studying journalism and Spanish at Penn State University. I am beyond thrilled to be rejoining CollegeFashionista for my fourth round and final (yikes!) semester of college.

CollegeFashionista has seen me through some pretty major life experiences—from studying abroad in Spain to interning in New York City over the summer and right back to my very own campus at Penn State—and I couldn’t be more grateful. Being a Style Guru has encouraged me to push my own personal style to new limits, and to truly think outside the box when it comes to getting dressed. My goal for the coming semester? To inspire you all to do the same.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about rules over the years, it’s that they were made to be broken. So throw your inhibitions and insecurities to the wind, and take that risk. Fashion should thrill you and it should challenge you, but it should never bore you. If you find that your wardrobe is feeling a little blasé, shake it up and try one thing you wouldn’t usually think to. Fashion lets you be whoever you want to be for the day, so why not go for it? If you’re used to classic streamlines and preppy pastels, channel your inner 1990s-era Courtney Love and mix in some grungy details. It may feel strange at first, but you’ll never go wrong as long as you wear a little confidence on your sleeve as well.
