Hi friends! It is splendid to have all of you Fashionistas/os here with me on this journey. My name is Alissa-kyra Carreon, but you can just call me Alissa. Now say it with me Aah-Lee-Saw!

I am in my first year of university, here in the wonderful and cold, city of Montreal, Quebec. Sadly, je ne parle pas francais, juste en peu. Jackets such as my Michael Kors coat are required in Canada.

Inspired by my favorite television show, Friends, Rachel Greene became my role model. She inspired me to live my life the way I choose, and if that means giving up everything I am used to, in order to achieve my goal then so be it. And let us not forget she taught me the true beauty in turtlenecks and knee-high socks, as I wore in my outfit above. Due to her courage, I was inspired to become a fashion buyer. Thus, I am majoring in Marketing at Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business to achieve my dream. Seriously though, trend forecasting and shopping for a living? Yes, please sign me up for that job.

Coming from a FOB (fresh-off-the-boat) Filipino family, I was taught at a young age that if I want something, I need to earn it myself. Nonetheless, I always wanted a lot of things, like shoes. Yes, shoes, I live for shoes. The shoes I am wearing, are a staple for my lazy days on campus since they are comfy enough to walk the concrete jungle. I worked my share of part-time jobs ever since the legal age of 16 just so I can feed my shoe addiction. Working 25 hour weeks while attending school, became the norm. My tight budget never held me back though. Couponing, sales racks and thrift stores have become my life! Let me tell you friends, you can find some real gems among those racks of second hand clothes, just like my Forever21 skirt which I found in a small thrift store in Vaudreuil-Dorion, QC.

Born in Montreal, I later moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania when I was six. There I attended Catholic school, which came with the uniform; the kilt. Honestly, I loved it. I loved that the old walls of my Alma Mater confined me to a uniform for it pushed me to become more creative with the different methods to spice up any outfit. From then on, my preppy/modern style emerged. I became enthralled with architectural clothes. Combing through red runway pictures to decide on a prom dress really pushed me to refine my sense of style. I fell in love with designers such as Phoebe Philo, Elie Saab and Christian Louboutin.

Other than my love for fashion, I am obsessed with makeup. Winged eyeliner, a fierce natural smoky eye look and sharp contour, is all I need to add the perfect amount of spice to any look.

Please stay tuned to hear more from me this upcoming semester, while I explore Concordia’s trendsetter streets!
