My name is Alison Barratt and I am a sophomore at the University of Alabama studying Fashion Retail and French. This spring, I will be writing the WHAT TO WEAR column. I am from the suburb of Carmel, Indiana located just north of Indianapolis. I know what you may be thinking; Indiana and fashion are not always put in the same sentence. Don’t let that fool you. There are at least four malls within a five mile radius of my house. I spent my first year of college at Indiana University studying Apparel Merchandising. Bloomington, Indiana is a lovely city when it comes to fashion. The colorful bohemian trend there has definitely influenced the style I sport today.
I have always been a girly girl. I go to the mall at least once a week, watch chick flicks on a regular basis and religiously read Teen Vogue and Vogue. I would not describe my style as “cookie cutter.” Throughout my life, I have had many friends from all over the world, and what do friends do? Share clothes! You can see me sporting clothes all the way from Switzerland to Chile. Travel is another one of my passions. I love getting an outside perspective on clothing and I am addicted to European fashion. After spending a summer in Europe, my suitcase doubled its inventory with unique clothes from every country I visited. I love that Zara has stores in the United States so we can get a piece of Europe in our own malls. I can be seen walking around campus in skinny jeans or shorts, a unique top that is probably from Urban Outfitters and a cute pair of boots.
After I graduate, I would love to be a wardrobe stylist. It is my dream to work at a fashion magazine and select the clothes that models wear in photo shoots. On that note, I cannot wait to capture Fashionista/os and write about the numerous fashion trends this spring!
