Hello fashion lovers! My name is Alicia Vega and I am a sophomore at the University of Arizona majoring in journalism and minoring in Spanish. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I will be writing the STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK column. I am so excited to get started and to provide you with amazing things that I see around campus.
Wearing the latest fashion trends wasn’t always my thing and still isn’t. I feel comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt and I know that’s strange coming from a Style Guru, but I have always admired fashion. It has always been one of those things that I loved keeping up with, I love studying fashion and how it acts as a form of self-expression. I love that what you’re wearing could make a first impression and love how shoes can be the thing to tie a whole ensemble together. Most of my fashion magazines have Post-it notes along the sides with my thoughts and my ideas. Even when I see someone on the street and I like how they pieced something together, I will keep a mental note like I would with a magazine. I enjoy studying people’s looks and how they were able to pull something off, which is another reason why I am excited to be a Style Guru. This way I can see something I like, photograph it and write about it later, no more mental notes.
My love for fashion has also fueled my want to attend New York Fashion Week, which is something I have never done before. I attended last year’s Tucson Fashion Week and in that moment I knew I was hooked and there was no going back. I just wanted to sit there all day and watch the models walk out in masterpieces.
As for my style, I am the girl that loves dark clothes any time of the year. My go-to outfit for any day would be a pair of dark washed jeans and a classy shirt with my Converse. However, when it comes to accessories, I actually LOVE that I have such terrible eyesight because wearing glasses every day is what defines me. I would definitely say that I am nerdy chic.
Well, that’s a little bit about me, I hope that I can provide you with some awesome fashion advice this semester.
