STYLE GURU BIO: Alicia Perry

Hello, fabulous friend!  My name is Alicia Marie Perry. I am a 21-year-old senior at the College of the Holy Cross with a passion for personal style, women empowerment and this beautiful, sparkling life! As a sociology major with a concentration in gender, sexuality, and women’s studies, I am devoted to learning about effective ways to encourage women (and all people!) to see and feel their worth. Fashion has been influential in providing purpose and meaning to my life, and I can only hope that I am able to encourage others to embrace who they are and realize their unique value in this world.

As a little girl, I was often seen prancing around my home—or the grocery store—in a frilly pink boa, plastic princess heels and a monogrammed purse to match; one might say that I always had a flair for “standing out,” but I was always just being me. I wasn’t made to fit into a box! Now, not much has changed; the plastic heels are a tad too tight, but head-to-toe leopard, purple lipstick, mismatched patterns or a combination of all three are my signatures. Although I am an avid reader of illustrious fashion magazines, I tend to disregard the latest trends and instead create looks that feel most in line with who I am.

Recently, I ran into an orientee as they hurriedly scurried to their last final exam. Before parting ways, my orientee yelled to ask me where I get my style from. Fully aware that my vibrant pink tresses stray from the “norm” at my school, I figured this question ultimately spurred from observing my locks. I hollered, “It’s just me!” Style has never been about impressing others or wearing what is “in.” Rather, fashion has provided me an artistic outlet for expressing my authentic self to the world and all those I meet. My exuberant personal style is a reflection of my optimistic attitude and hopes to always live a colorful life.

In keeping with this, I make sure to keep my wintery looks vibrant amidst the darkness that comes with earlier sunsets! For this ensemble, I paired a sheer cream blouse with gold sequin cuffs and a flashy yellow skirt—a surprising take on classic tweed, which also added an extra punch of color. Brisk December winds called for a touch of warmth, and this pastel pink peacoat provided just that plus a timeless, vintage vibe to the overall look.  Polka dot tights, leopard flats, a floral purse and cotton candy locks completed the bright and bundled get-up.

I am grateful for sunshine, party nails, the love of family and friends and you, darling, for stopping by! Remain up-to-date on my latest fashion posts by following me on my social media channels.
