STYLE GURU BIO: Ali Velas

Hello trendy people! It’s Ali Velas reporting all things fashion for my second semester with CollegeFashionista. I am a junior at North Carolina State University studying fashion marketing and design. Even though I attend school at North Carolina State University, I will be studying abroad at Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence, Italy. With that being said, I will be surrounded by students just like myself who love everything fashion, and I have the amazing opportunity to showcase the best styles around campus. I am excited to see what stylish Fashionistas/os I approach during my time abroad this semester!

2015 has been filled with adventures, fashion design, blogging and of course changes. I am so excited to photograph new backgrounds in my photos, cultures and fashion while abroad in Italy! Studying abroad this semester and being able to share such an exciting opportunity with you all makes me so happy that you will be able to follow along with trends I see in Europe.

During fall, I continued to blog on my personal blog VisualizeStyle and Instagram my life away with outfit of the day posts, food, lifestyle and designs from school. I was constantly next to a sewing machine learning new techniques and really focusing on who I want to be as a designer one day. As I focused on me, I was able to learn new things about myself. One thing was how strong I was because there were times I wanted to give up, I was completely overwhelmed with two studio labs, design projects, papers and blogging. But, as a college student you learn that no matter what fills your plate, all of it gets done. So as I continue growing as a person and designer, and as the new year approaches I will continue to remind myself of what I learned and being true to myself for the new year.

As 2016 approaches and plans to hold an exciting and adventurous year, I am looking forward to new inspirations, aspirations and creations. When people ask me to describe my style in one word, my best answer would be evolving. My style is constantly changing. One day I wake up and put on a fluffy skirt with a big bow and dangling pearls like a wannabe Carrie Bradshaw and the next day I look as if Free People and Anthropologie exploded on me with neutral sweaters and skirts, floppy hats and a pair of fringe booties. But I can promise at least one day, I am your typical street style girl with boyfriend jeans and an oversized T-shirt. I am inspired by so many bloggers and designers, and by creating new looks and trends from all of my inspirations, I think that is what makes me most unique.
