STYLE GURU BIO: Alexis Gardner

Hi Fashionistas! My name is Alexis Gardner, and I am honored to say that this is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! I am a freshman at Western Carolina University where I am currently double majoring in business and Spanish with a minor in leadership.

I’ve loved the fashion industry since I could remember. When I was as young as seven years old, I would constantly find myself drawing up different outfits that I would one day hope to design and wear myself. As I have gotten older, I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of fashion through my own style as well as inspiration that spirals through social media.

Many believe an individual must establish a style for themselves and maintain that same style for years to come but here’s the beauty in fashion, that’s just not true! The fashion industry is constantly evolving and accepting more styles and ideas as the years progress and the generations change. It’s up to the model (you) to decide which styles to take on or leave behind.

From once buying everything Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen designed and finding bits and pieces that resembled the iconic Hannah Montana era to growing and finding my own personal style, I always seem to find myself exploring the looks of Zendaya Coleman who has been my inspiration since her Shake It Up days. (10 points for the Disney throwback!) Zendaya’s style is much like my own: Classy and elegant but also put together, even in the not-so-dressy days.

Here is an example: For this outfit, I am wearing dark-washed jeans and a mustard yellow knit sweater along with accessories from Alex and Ani and Pandora. With approaching the chilly days of fall, I decided to throw on a satin green bomber, which tied the look together!

I hope you all enjoyed learning a little more about me and my personal style. I’m excited to photograph and share some amazing styles with you all (maybe we’ll be the first to discover a new trend) but until then, stay #RAD and have a wonderful semester!
