Hey Fashionistas, my name is Alexis Elliott and this is my first semester with College Fashionista. I am a sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University and I am majoring in fashion merchandising. After school, my dream is to work for a big fashion magazine and to work my way up to editor. I’ve always wanted to make a blog and when I came upon CollegeFashionista, I knew I had to be apart of it!
I’ve had an interest in fashion since I can remember. I can remember I always wanted to style different outfits, try on my mothers’ clothes, and have fashion shows in the hallways of my house. Once my mom really noticed my interest in fashion, she let me get my first subscription to W magazine and it was life changing! I fell in love with the vibrant colors, storylines, and outfits. I was very interested in the behind the scenes of this entire process. So that’s when I did some research and my respect for the fashion industry had changed tremendously.
What I admire so much about fashion is the aspect of personal style. I love seeing how people put different pieces together in ways that I would have never thought of. I am always looking at different people’s blogs, YouTube pages, and Instagram feeds to get new inspiration. I have so many style icons, but to name one, it would be Rihanna. She can do no wrong!
I would describe my personal style to be casual yet chic with a bit of edge, but also quite minimal. When I’m choosing what to wear every morning, I tend to grab earth tones: greys, whites, and blacks. In the outfit above you’ll see just that. I love a good ripped jean and I decided to pair it with one of my favorite Calvin Klein tops. to make this look even more casual, I chose to throw on some basic black Nike shoes. I am also into different trends. For example, that choker used to be my mom’s and now I’m obsessed just like the rest of the fashion world!
