STYLE GURU BIO: Alexis Clements

Hi Fashionistas/os! I am Alexis Clements, a freshman at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. This being my first post as an intern for CollegeFashionista, I am ecstatic to share with you readers a little bit about myself and my personal style. Like most of you, I get inspired by celebrities, luxury brand advertisements and fashion publications, but I am also easily inspired by pedestrians I see every day. Since I live in New Jersey, I have had easy access to big cities my whole life, like Philadelphia and New York City. Growing up taking fairly short commutes to these cities allowed me to be immersed in such diverse communities, especially being diverse in fashion and style. My style is often influenced by trends of the past several decades, statements made on runways as well as looks seen on the street. I love a simple, yet remarkable, outfit. A summation of my style would be to describe it as minimalistic, yet bold.

Being a biology major, I knew CollegeFashionista would be the perfect outlet for me to continue expressing myself and sharing artistic creativity because school for me is going to be focused solely on non-creative based courses. For my first words of knowledge to you, I would suggest wearing outfits fit for your current surroundings/occasion, but never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone while doing so! When piecing together an outfit, push the boundaries on what you believe to be fashionable. Since school is starting once again for most of us here, I thought this would be the perfect outfit for this post. College mostly requires quite a lot of walking around campus, so comfort was key when creating this outfit. You can recreate this look to be both on trend and unique at the same time.

To look both put together and playfully messy, go for a monochromatic outfit! This look screams “girl on the go,” all while being eye-catching yet casual. I paired my GUESS jean jacket with a pair of jean shorts of the same hue of denim. Picking a light blue tank top to make this outfit monochromatic was key. Adding in big jewelry like hoops and a chain-link necklace along with my metallic sneakers gave this outfit an extra punch. Since my accessories and Nike sneakers are silver, this outfit is tied together from top to bottom. I am getting major ’90s cool girl vibes from this denim-on-denim outfit. Who says you can’t be casual, comfy and cool?
