STYLE GURU BIO: Alexis Atkins

Hello fellow fashion lovers, my name is Alexis Atkins. I am currently a junior at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I am pursuing a degree in fashion marketing and management. In the near future,  I hope to work on a creative marketing team for a fashion or beauty brand.

For me, fashion is a habit. Growing up, my parents always taught me how to create my outfits. Then I mastered ironing and washing my own clothes. Next thing you know, I began spending every Sunday planning out my clothes for the entire week (can we say Type A?). Although I don’t plan my outfits out a week in advance anymore (because of college), the principles that my parents passed down to me have become a rule book for how I put together my wardrobe.

If any look were to summarize my style, it would have to be this outfit. I have my closet jam-packed with classic go-to pieces like this black surplice shirt. It’s insanely comfortable and goes with just about anything. As a plus, I scored it for about $14 on Amazon and believe me, no one can never go wrong with a $14 shirt.

On the bottom, I am wearing a pair of ELLE floral-printed lounge pants from Kohl’s. I love the bold pattern because it adds a sense of personality and color to the outfit. Another benefit to these pants is that the high waist of the pants gives the illusion that I am taller, which at my modest 5-foot-2, I whole-heartedly welcome.

The design on the lounge pants is great because it features red, which is an unconventional neutral color. Red, much like beige or black, can naturally go with any look because it’s classic; to pull this look together, I added a simple red handbag for an accent and pointed, patent leather black oxford shoes. This look is super easy to put on and can go from an interview to an amazing party with a few changes.

I can’t wait to start my third quarter blogging for CollegeFashionista. I love looking back at the style moments I have captured and seeing what style trends occurred. This upcoming season should be especially fun as we are entering a new year. I wonder what styles the new year will bring?
