STYLE GURU BIO: Alexandria Boyer

Hello CollegeFashionista readers! My name is Lexi Boyer and this is my very first semester as a Style Guru. This upcoming spring, I will be continuing my sophomore year at Marquette University in Milwaukee studying psychology and Writing-Intensive English. I transferred to Marquette University after spending my freshmen year of college at DePaul University in Chicago. The big city is still near and dear to my heart but I needed a change.

Having the opportunity to live in two big, thriving cities has affected my style greatly. Chicago has added edge and a metropolitan vibe, where the freezing temperatures of Milwaukee made me focus on staying warm and cozy. The two separate and unique experiences transformed my high school athlete sweatpants style into a creative outlet that I love to experiment with.

Being in Chicago for that one year really altered my idea of fashion and personalization. The classrooms were full of people with strong visions and opinions, and they were not afraid to share them, whether it be in school or through their personal style. I learned how to express myself, push the boundaries and wear a lot of black. I am forever thankful for my time there, even though it has passed, because the stylish fearlessness that surrounded me.

While I’m not obsessing over the latest trends and trying to survive at my new school, you can find me watching Friends on Netflix, expanding my writing portfolio, or scouring Milwaukee for new taco joints. Life is short; there should never be a shortage of delicious food, late nights and stories that you’ll be telling your kids about, or maybe not. I’m always open to new opportunities and adventures and that shines through my style. I’ll never say no to trying a new trend, may it be black lipstick, patterned leggings or sequin anything, it’s about being true to who you are and pushing yourself.

We’re now in the depths of the winter so sweaters, boots and scarves are absolutely necessary. If living in both Milwaukee and Chicago have taught me anything, it’s how to dress for the cold. In this look I keep it cozy in a chunky sweater and a high-collared tank. I normally stick to muted or dark colors, so thick cabin socks are a great way to cut the monotone shades while keeping you toasty. The boots I paired with the outfit have a wonderfully thick heel and deep treads that keep the slipping and sliding to a minimum while adding some classiness to an otherwise more casual outfit. They’re a staple in these cold months while we still want to dress up with heels without the worry of slipping on ice. Finally, I accessorize with a few thicker pieces of jewelry; one leather bracelet and one metal bracelet to add a little edge to the outfit.

Join me on this style adventure as we enjoy the coziness of the holidays and work our way into the beauty of spring in Milwaukee.
