STYLE GURU BIO: Alexandra Maland

Hello, everyone! My name is Alexandra and I am a senior psychology major at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus and love all things creative. I am super excited to be a Style Guru this fall and hope that the opportunity allows me to not only share my style, but also challenge the boundaries of it. When I am not in class, working or volunteering, I enjoy watching reruns of The Office, buying overpriced cups of coffee and staring at stunning wanderlust-provoking photos online.

This is my first semester back home in Canada after five months studying abroad in the gorgeous Belgian city of Leuven. While abroad, I was able to explore both Europe and my style, while being submerged in culture and surrounded by incredible fashion. I hope to bring some new Europe-meets-North America inspiration to my outfits that you’ll see this fall and winter.

I would describe my style as an open book or a mosaic. With time, I have come to realize that changing up your look is much more fun than being trapped by one category or adjective. I enjoy looks that are masculine or feminine, retro or modern, chic or grunge; it all depends on the day. Style has always been a fun aspect of myself to experiment with and I am definitely still learning and changing with time.

Living in the Okanagan region of British Columbia means beautiful weather, lots of sunshine and enjoying all of the fashion that comes with it. What am I wearing? My outfit here best reflects what has been my casual go-to look of the summer. Feminine off-the-shoulder crops and high-waisted denim (even the controversial double denim) are always on trend for me when the season starts to heat up. These ring-covered fingers will wave a bittersweet goodbye to my favorite warm weather ensemble as fall fashion approaches in all its dark and oversized glory.
