STYLE GURU BIO: Alexa Mingone

Hey guys! I’m Alexa Mingone. I am a junior at Fordham University and am majoring in Communications and Media Studies. I am new to CollegeFashionista, but I am so excited to be spending the summer introducing the world to my style as well as many of the unique styles that can be found here at Fordham!

When I finally received my golden ticket to my dream school, I decided that I needed a wardrobe that would reflect my personality. I am very into fitness and am constantly in the gym, but I decided that it was time I stopped sporting my sweats-and-sneakers look past my morning workout. I adopted what I would refer to as a classic style, but with my own twist. I like to keep my style simple, but far from boring. I have always been extremely organized. Since I was in middle school my closet has been completely ordered by color down to the last sock. I wanted my style to always be presented as put together. I also wanted a look that would reflect that I am a country girl at heart who is from a rural area but am still more than capable of standing out in New York City’s sea of styles.

With Fordham’s angelic campus as my backdrop, I began experimenting with different trends. I found that some of my favorite looks involved less shocking statement pieces and more mature ensembles that I knew I would love forever. Some of my favorite pieces include my rich chocolate cowboy boots, two-toned jewelry and neutrals that can be made exciting with the right accessories. I am constantly shopping to feed my ever-evolving wardrobe and have found that I am a firm believer in the idea that a girl can never own too many jackets. They are the perfect addition to any outfit and can even transform a simple jeans and T-shirt combination.

When I arrived at Fordham, I was suddenly exposed to all kinds of new styles that I had never seen before. I couldn’t believe the fashion diversity that I had found in our little New York City oasis. I immediately began using my peers for inspiration in my daily outfit selections. What I am hoping to accomplish with my weekly posts is to break away from my fashion comfort zone and be inspired by other styles that I see across campus. I am hoping that through CollegeFashionista I can inspire myself and anyone who reads my posts to try something new, but in a way that still reflects their unique style. I am so excited for this amazing opportunity and look forward to sharing Fordham’s fashion every Wednesday!
