STYLE GURU BIO: Alex Filipowski

Hello everyone! My name is Alex Filipowski and I am so excited to join the CollegeFashionista team.

I am currently a senior fashion design major at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I began studying fibers and textiles where I discovered my passion for knitting and knitwear. I am in the process of launching my own knitwear company as well as working on my senior collection in school.

My personal style tends to change and morph spontaneously and without much notice. I seem to change my style based on my mood. I am either wearing loud, one-of-a-kind pieces that I found in a vintage shop or made myself, or I am wearing an all-black, polished look. I collect vintage jackets and enjoy mixing menswear into my daily looks. I also very much enjoy makeup and beauty products; I sometimes work as a freelance makeup artist on photoshoots at school.

Outside of fashion, I am a huge film buff and thoroughly enjoy taking inspiration from filmmakers, costumes, writing and actors. I mostly enjoy strong female characters with a strong sense of dress. I also dabble in photography. My favorite subjects are humans and I enjoy quirky characters in awkward situations.

As a designer, I design with comfort and style in mind. I want my customers to be comfortable, yet I love to design pieces that can last a lifetime. I love handmade goods and incorporating old or found materials in my design projects. Oversized silhouettes and minimal silhouettes are my favorite to design. I believe my overall aesthetic tends to be a bit unisex and clean. I hand embroider on my pieces as well as paint occasionally.

I truly enjoy all aspects of art and tend to be a bit scattered when it comes to what I practice. I want to learn as much as possible. I attempt to immerse myself in as many activities as possible in order to meet as many people as possible. I love hearing about others and what makes people tick.

For my Style Guru post, I decided to wear some of my favorite items. I found a Versace shirt and a Versace leather jacket at a few thrift stores in the past. They have been two of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe for a few years now. I paired the shirt and jacket with some simple, black cutout leggings and my favorite pair of heeled boots that I got from Topshop a few years back.

Enough about me! I am so excited to get started and cannot wait to explore and share my fashion experiences with you and the rest of the CollegeFashionista team!
