STYLE GURU BIO: Alanna LaBrutto

Hi everyone! My name is Alanna LaBrutto, and I am a freshman public relations and advertising major at Rowan University in New Jersey. For starters, I can not even begin to explain how overjoyed I am being to be able to join the CollegeFashionista team this spring. I have been infatuated with style and fashion ever since I was younger.

My love for fashion started just when I was a little girl. When other kids went home after school and turned on the Disney Channel or Cartoons, I turned on America’s Next Top Model, Sex and the City, and Project Runway, and binged watched for hours with my older sister. I became obsessed with the reality show The Hills, and sooner or later, fashion designer Lauren Conrad became my biggest inspiration.

People watching: something I think I do a little too much, but I can’t help it. There are so many inspiring people who I see walk through campus everyday and their creativity and expression goes unnoticed. The thought of waking up every morning and being able to put together an outfit that will make me feel confident, and hopefully inspire others, keeps me on my toes! I have a penchant for booties, anything fur, denim, and black. New York City is my favorite place to be and I have high hopes to live there in a few years. Not only do I hold interest in fashion, but I’m one for music and writing as well.

Often, I like to compare my style to music. For example, when people ask me what kind of music I’m into, the only answer I can give them is, “if it’s a good song, i’ll listen to it.” The same goes for my outfits. If I like the outfit, i’ll wear it. It’s all about what makes you feel confident. I like to take chances and be bold. My style is combined with keeping up with trends, and of course, my own personal preference! For me, I honestly think it’s important to look your best, no matter what the occasion is. When I look and feel good in my outfit, I’m more motivated. I think our outfits and appearance affect our confidence in a huge way.

One of my favorite articles of clothing this winter is a black trench coat. I chose a black leather skirt with a black trench coat, and added thigh high boots to make it more of a winter look. One of my favorite accessories is a hat this winter, so I added that to my look stand out.

If there’s anything I have learned in the year of twenty-sixteen, It’s that there’s nothing more beautiful than seeing a person be themselves. This phrase pertains a lot to me, especially as a new college student trying to find her way. I honestly think that’s what fashion is all about. Being yourself is the best thing you can do to evidentiate the clothes you wear.

And, one of the most important thing is, never loose your smile. No matter how nicely you dress up, you can never make a fashion statement without your smile.

I can’t wait to see your style, see you around campus!
