STYLE GURU BIO: Aishawarya Singh

Hi there! My name is Aishawarya Singh, and this will be my third semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! I’m a senior at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and I am majoring in economics and biomolecular science. I still can’t believe that this will be my third semester as a Style Guru, but I’m thrilled to be back because I love capturing street style and keeping an eye out for all the new trends on campus!

I get my style inspiration from Instagram, fashion blogs, street fashion as well as my friends. I’d have to say that my personal style is constantly evolving. I love keeping up with trends. However, instead of buying new items, I usually end up mixing and matching items already in my closet to create a new look. I also think it’s awesome when old trends resurface and you’re able to reuse a certain item in your closet. That’s something I’ve always loved about fashion—how old trends are revitalized in a new and creative way.

Speaking of trends that have made a comeback, I am currently obsessed with shift dresses! These dresses have made appearances throughout the past century and have evolved each time they have been brought back. One thing I love about shift dresses is how free and comfortable they feel when you wear them. I also think that shift dresses give you an effortless and classy look.

The main star of my look is the black paisley shift dress matched with a pair of black strappy sandals. I think the pattern of the dress elevates this look, and it’s a great piece to transition from day to night. I also accessorized this outfit with a layered gold chain necklace, along with a classic and simple black kate spade new york satchel. This look has both style and comfort! What more could you ask for?
