I’m Aisha, I’m 21 and I’m a senior studying Advertising at the University of South Florida. This is my second semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I’m absolutely delighted to be at it again. One thing that you need to know about me is that I’m infatuated with beautiful things. This infatuation has led me to fall in love with film, music, art and fashion.
I’m most inspired by people who are always unapologetically themselves such as Wes Anderson, Alexa Chung and Leandra Medine. One thing that these three people have in common is style. Anderson does a brilliant job of creating characters who have a extremely distinctive style that is shown through accessorizing. My favorite Wes Anderson character is Margot Tenenbaum from The Royal Tenenbaums, with her moodiness, black eye-liner, straight blonde bob, polo dresses and fur coats. Creating your own signature sense of style is imperative. It sets you apart from everybody else and allows you to create a unique identity for yourself that supports your personality.
My style is classically influenced with an edgy twist. I love creating outfits around a statement piece such as some ridiculously bold sunnies, a pop of color or a pair of statement shoes. Lately, I am a total sucker for olive jackets, stripes and dark-wash denim. I can’t live without red lipstick and I’m currently obsessed with MAC’s Lady Danger.
One of my favorite things to do in my free time is adventure. I was born in Asia and travel has always been a part of my life. I created and co-author a blog with my boyfriend called Stellar Piece where we document all of the adventures, big and small, that we go on. I love it because it also documents how my style corresponds with wherever I’m going. I love exploring and becoming immersed in the unique style of different cities. One of my favorite cities to be in is New York City. It makes me feel alive, like I could be anything, wear anything and do anything that I please. I think people should feel like that wherever they happen to live.
Writing for CollegeFashionista last semester has opened so many doors for me. I’ve further developed my sense of style, gained confidence and strengthened my writing and photography skills. I’m much more comfortable in experimenting with fashion and I try to play with trends that I see on Fashionista/os that I meet. I’m thrilled to write for ACCESSORIES REPORT because accessorizing is one of my favorite aspects of fashion. Everyone does it differently, some more subtle or bold than others.
I’m looking forward to meeting so many fabulously styled boys and girls this spring and creeping them out by asking if a total stranger can photograph their rad outfit. You’ve been warned, USF. Aisha’s back.
It’s a new year, people. Be unapologetically you. Wear what you want, say what you want and be what you want. Life is too short to do it any other way.
