Hi everybody! I’m Ageda Machuca, also known as Agee. I can finally say I am a senior in college (woo hoo)! I am working towards my Bachelors degree in Business Economics at Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia. This will mark my third round as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I am more than excited to come back and start writing for the site again, so stay tuned for what I have in store for you. But first, let me catch you up on my summer adventures. This summer, one of my biggest dreams came true to one day intern in the Big Apple. I had the privilege of joining the CollegeFashionista team as one of their marketing interns in their New York office and meeting fellow Style Gurus, who I now have a close friendship with. This experience has exposed me to what goes on behind the scenes and all I can say is that some exciting stuff is coming your way.
One matter I have to mention about my NYC adventures is that the fashion there was on whole new level and never failed to disappoint me. In fact, it even inspired me to try the minimalistic approach with basic monochromatic pieces. I still tend to mix it in with my love for anything floral. The best part about my fashion experience in New York was my morning train commutes surrounded by polished men with impeccable senses of style.
Though my New York City adventure is over, I am excited to be back in Savannah and enjoy my last year of college. However, there are a few pieces of advice that I must share with you fellow Fashionista/os about interning and making the most of that experience. First and foremost, you don’t have to wait to intern until your junior or senior year. Do it now! The earlier you start, the more likely you will be able to figure out what your career goals are. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and go after your dreams. Once you land an internship opportunity, always help out in any way you can, observe your mentors and soak up all the knowledge they exude. Don’t forget to make connections with those you meet along the way because you never know what that would lead to.
I owe it to Amy, Sammy and Melissa for allowing me to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team. I am so grateful for this experience and getting the chance to meet many influential people within the fashion industry. Being a part of CollegeFashionista has been the greatest experience of my life and it has allowed me to grow as a writer. For that, I am truly thankful. So remember, if this girl from the middle of nowhere can make it to the big city, you can too! All it takes is hard work, dedication and the ability to take action to achieve your dreams.
