STYLE GURU BIO: Abby Gundler

Hello! My name is Abby Gundler and I am a freshman at Kent State University, majoring in Fashion Merchandising. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista. At Kent State, I am a member of the Fashion Student Organization and a nondenominational Christian campus group, The Navigators.

I grew up in Blanchester, Ohio, a small little farm town outside of Cincinnati. In Blanchester the constant trend is camo and cowboy boots. This is not my style. I began to search online for trends and read fashion magazines, I refused to conform! At the high school I began dressing how I wanted to dress and not how my town wanted me to dress. This included skirts, boots (not cowboy) and on-trend blouses. I love my town, but I was not going to let them spoil my love of fashion. What I did not expect was for people to like the way I dressed. Girls I had never talked to before were asking me to shop for them, if what they were wearing was fashionable and how to style what they just bought at the mall. All the research I had been doing for myself was now helping more people.

I realized after this that I wanted a career in fashion. I wanted to help people learn to dress for themselves and not to please anyone else. I also want to be able to help people of different body size be trendy. When I started researching trends I saw that many of the trends were size specific and showed little variation for anyone of a larger size. I want to help people realize that style is for all sizes.
