STYLE GURU BIO: Abby Bowen

Hey Fashionistas/os! My name is Abby Bowen, and I am so excited to be joining CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru for my second semester! My first semester with CollegeFashionista this past spring has already provided me with such a wonderful learning experience, and I cannot wait to continue my journey with this internship.

I am going to be a sophomore student at Kent State University this fall, and I am studying fashion merchandising with a minor in fashion media. Attending such a large school with so many opportunities to meet creative individuals has provided me with so much inspiration this past year. Becoming very involved with the fashion school at Kent as well as this internship with CollegeFashionista has allowed me to grow immensely as a fashion student and as a person in such a short amount of time.

In describing my personal style, I would say I draw a lot of my inspiration from bohemian and retro styles of the ’60s and ’70s, as well as from fashion bloggers. I tend to stray from monochromatic outfits in dark colors or black, and lean towards bright colors and retro prints. I love loose and flowy silhouettes, like billowing sleeves and flared pants. In the warmer months, I tend to wear a lot of dresses and floral prints (groundbreaking, I know). Lately I have been completely obsessed with this summer’s off-the-shoulder trend. I love rocking my favorite type of shoes—platforms. Whether they are sandals, sneakers or wedges, a pair of platforms is definitely my favorite wardrobe staple.

I also draw a huge amount of my style inspiration from my love for music. I spend a lot of time in the summer attending concerts, and I take ideas from street style at shows or artists themselves.

My favorite thing about fashion is that it can be defined differently for everyone. I am so excited to spend another semester with CollegeFashionista to see how everyone expresses their creativity and love for fashion all over the country!
