STYLE GURU BIO: Aamina Haykal

Hi, Fashionista/os! My name is Aamina Haykal, and I am looking forward to starting my first semester as a Style Guru! I am from a small town in New York, and I am currently studying at Columbia College Chicago. I will be starting my second semester as a Junior majoring in Fashion Design with a minor in Fashion Business. Students don’t just show up to class at Columbia with sweatpants; people dress up! I cannot wait to showcase the amazing styles there are at this fabulous art school!

My friends always look to me for fashion advice. I love keeping up with the latest fashion trends while staying true to my personal style. My goal in life is to be a fashion designer and have my own clothing label. I have had a passion for fashion ever since I was seven years old. I started drawing and painting very early on in life, but my main focus was on fashion sketches and sewing. I have always been fascinated with taking my designs from paper, and bringing them to life. My love for fashion and creativity is why I chose to go to an art school. I cannot see myself pursuing any other career. Like my school’s motto says, “Live What You Love.”

In my free time I enjoy drawing, shopping, taking pictures, hanging with friends and attending networking events to meet new people! I also love staying active on social media. I would describe my personal style as casual chic. I like to wear casual pieces like skinny jeans, leggings, rompers and sweaters that I can dress up with high heels or dress down with flats. Accessories are so important, too; they can make or break an outfit! I never go overboard with the jewelry; just a subtle touch makes a world of a difference. Sometimes a statement necklace is all I need.

The best part about fashion is wearing the perfect outfit makes you feel good about yourself and boosts your confidence. If you feel confident you can take on the world. That’s the power of clothes! Remember anyone can buy fashion; style is what you make of it.
