STYLE GURU BIO: Aamina Haykal

Hi Fashionista/os, my name is Aamina Haykal, and I am a senior at Columbia College Chicago. I’m currently studying fashion design with a minor in fashion business. This is my third semester as a Style Guru and I am happy to be apart of the team. What I love about being a Style Guru is that I get to incorporate fashion, writing and photography together. These are three of my favorite things!

I love attending an art school in the city because downtown is my campus. It makes me feel like I have the world at my fingertips. I am free to create and explore with plenty of opportunity. I have had a love of fashion since I was seven years old. My mom used to sew some of my clothes so that inspired me to do the same. Art was my favorite subject growing up. I enjoy drawing fashion sketches and painting. I aspire to be a fashion designer one day, starting my own label once I graduate. I feel this career path is made for me because I have always had a good eye for fashion. I am the one my friends go to for styling advice. It only further motivates me to take pride in what I do and love.

I would describe my personal style as dressy casual. I want to be comfy, but stylish at the same time. I enjoy pairing jeans with heels and a cute blouse, for example. I often wear staple, basic pieces, but spice it up with bold jewelry and accessories. I like to keep my wardrobe trendy, but unique to me. Now that fall is coming up, I am transitioning my wardrobe from bright colors to earthy tones. I have paired this burgundy and beige lace top with lipstick to match. This olive green utility jacket with gold detailing pops well with my burgundy top. My go-to dark blue jeans stays true with the fall color palette I am going with. I love wearing boots all year long, so I have these tan combat boots to brighten my look. As a final detail, I am wearing gold bangles and a ring to pop with the warm tones.

Fashion can be empowering. It says a lot about who you are. That is why it is so important to showcase people’s style from around the world. I am looking forward to the semester ahead as I go into my senior year.
