STYLE GURO BIO: Sara Weber

Style Guru Bio

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” –Coco Chanel

From school uniforms to couture, I’ve seen it all and this semester I’m beyond excited to take the streets and embrace the beauty and fashion that the University of Wisconsin-Madison holds. My name is Sara Weber and I am going into my last semester at UW, all while taking on my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. My area of study is Communication Arts and I hope to pursue a career in Fashion PR.

Growing up I lived in your typical suburban area where our pride in fashion came from a moose or seagull logo plastered on the front of our shirts. Sooner than later, thankfully, I caught on to this beautiful magazine that goes by the name Vogue and let my mind wander from there. I soon became inspired to fill my closet with clothing and accessories that let me express who I really was and show my passion for the art of fashion.

In my sophomore year of college I became mildly involved with our school’s fashion show, and since I’ve reached the point where it has now become something that I spend 10 to20 hours a week planning. Through the great program we have at UW, I learned all about CollegeFashionista and got hooked on reading the blogs and that’s what has led me here.  This semester I will be writing the FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT column and I am beyond excited to interview a handful of fashionistas/os and get the insider on many different styles.

We have reached the dead of winter, and are experiencing some of the coldest temperatures since the 1920s, but I don’t think that’s any excuse to let your style be put the wayside. I see winter as a challenge to expand your wardrobe and go outside of your comfort zone to express yourself, even if you have to do it in layers. My favorite items to wear in the winter include my fur vest and my leather paneled leggings. To add, I find that booties are a great addition to a winterized outfit.  These items put an edge on a simple blouse and can easily dress up an outfit. With spring break approaching I’ve got my eye on a few different pairs of wedges and some high wasted chiffon shorts to pair them with.

I can’t wait to tackle this semester and the changing weather that will encourage Fashionistas/os to show off their closet on the streets. With the way Wisconsin weather works, who knows, we may have Fashionistas sporting their summer wear in no time.  Until next time….
