STYLE ADVICE: Thrifting

“Thrift shopping is like picking the paints for your own canvas.” This quote is from this cute little Fashionista herself! I thought that her outfit was so unique and personal, and it turns out that almost everything in this ensemble is thrifted from a variety of locations!

Her oversize T-shirt dress that says “big dogs” and the vintage jean jacket with patches from the famous Woodward Dream Cruise are both from Salvation Army. Even her accessories are thrifted. The thin gold bracelet is from Goodwill and the mid-calf socks are from Value World (which she styled with Adidas sneakers). She added her own pins to the jean jacket that are all from different zoos and aquariums from around the country. What a great way to remember the places you’ve been while adding personality to an outfit!

Many people are skeptical about thrift shopping, as it can be looked at as buying other people’s junky old clothing. However, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure, right? I asked this Fashionista what she liked about thrift shopping and how it played a role in her personal style. She explained how thrifting is the best because you always find new items every single time. Every shopping experience is fresh and new, rather than going to the mall and seeing all the same things in every store. She likes creating looks that no one can copy because the items are all unique. Also, it is not uncommon to find name brands like Ralph Lauren, Gucci, and Levi Strauss items for extremely cheap!

This Fashionista certainly has some words of wisdom when it comes to thrift shopping! Don’t be afraid of wearing used clothing. Thrift shopping opens so many doors for unique ensembles that no one else can create. It will sure save you some money too. Jewelry, handbags, shoes, and even home décor can be found there, too. Take your time, and be patient and very observant when thrifting, because no two things are the same! Good luck!
