STYLE ADVICE: The Thrills of Thrifting

Looks-for-less are a hot topic for many college students. It’s difficult to find stylish clothes on a budget, or style a look on a budget for that matter. However, being shop-savvy and finding those cheaper alternatives can make a huge difference.

The best part about thrifting is you don’t have to buy all your clothes there; you can just pick out a few pieces here and there to add to your looks. Thrifting is great, but here are some tips all Fashionistas and Fashionistos can benefit from. First and foremost, you must have patience! It may take a little while to find those hidden gems but in the end, it will be worth it.

Thrift stores can have a little bit of everything. Ranging from shoes to necklaces, handbags to T-shirts (like the one she is wearing), there is something for all men and women. Another helpful tip is to go in with a budget. All shopping trips should include a budget (sometimes), but especially when thrifting things can add up before you know it. Last but not least, always check quality. Thrifting is an awesome alternative to buying fast fashion, but sometimes the quality of the clothing has seen better days. Always check the seams and edges on garments, check the chains and clasps on jewelry, and check zippers, laces, etc. on handbags and shoes. These simple tips can lead to a great thrifting experience!

Once you’ve thrifted your heart out, it’s time to pair them with your wardrobe. This Fashionista paired her thrifted Steelers T-shirt with a fun and flirty overall skirt. Overalls have made a comeback in recent years; they go great with sweaters, T-shirts, tanks, any top of your choice. Since the overalls were a skirt, she finished the look with sheer black tights and simple ankle booties. Such an easy look for everyday and any season–for summer just remove the tights and add some sandals!

I hope you all love this Fashionista’s look as much as did! Don’t forget to check me out on social media and let me know if you thrifted any great items lately!
