STYLE ADVICE: Stripe It Up

It’s finally feeling like spring here at Rowan University. Fashionistas/os are challenged to pull out their fashion forward looks now more than ever. All semester we were challenged with either wearing whatever we want to keep warm, or we were forced to face the cold while showing a true fashion statement. Winter fashion is usually filled with solid, dark colors and unfortunately, the dark and dreary colors made the lengthy and work filled school days seem 10 times longer. Thankfully, the warm weather brings out fun colors and patterns. That is one of the most exciting things about spring.

Whether they are horizontal or vertical, thin or thick, black and white, or even color, stripes make a huge statement—day or night. Many guys want to express their style with more than just a solid color, but they worry about bold patterns seeming a little too much. With such a dilemma, stripes are the perfect solution. As popular as ever, stripes serve as a good compromise by staying conservative, while still separating themselves from the crowd. The best part about stripes is the feeling of ease they convey. You can pair them with just about any other item in your closet. On top of stripes being incredibly easy to style, there are also a ton of different variations of stripes.

Although stripes have been a menswear staple for pretty much ever, rocking a striped look is all about matching your outfit accordingly, choosing the right kind for your body type, and finding a balance between bold and conservative. If you plan on wearing horizontal stripes, I would suggest pairing the shirt with a jacket or a cardigan, like this Fashionisto. He chose the perfect essentials to pair with the stripes. Aside from the denim jacket, he chose to wear a pair of gray jeans, a pair of Chukka boots, and he completed the look off with a solid white bold hat.

I hope this style advice gives you much less fear of bring the vengeance of stripes back!
