Let’s see…if I tried to count the number of scarves I pass on a daily walk through campus, I would fail. I would fail miserably. This is because, though spring break has come and gone and finals are on their way, Central is still vacationing in Snow Land, Michigan. However, Fashionistas and Fashionistos are taking advantage of this weather. Certain stylish pieces flourish with winter weather, one of which is my favorite: a scarf.
This Fashionista is wearing a woven black and white plaid scarf. Now, back in the day when I first fell in love with scarves, I would have said this Fashionista is breaking a huge rule. “When you wear a scarf it should always match another piece in your ensemble,” said a young and silly Amanie. I love the way this Fashionista styled her scarf. Though I see hundreds of scarves daily, her wrapping style is quite unique. I zoned in on her ensemble because of how explicitly her scarf juxtaposes the plaid print of her coat. Mixing prints and patterns is such a fun and carefree style, and it is easy to achieve when wearing scarves. However, so are many other styles. The luxury of winter is that we are free to wear any kind of scarf we choose. Be it plaid or animal print, knitted or woven, made of silk, pom-pom yarn or wool, there is room to wear that scarf you love while in Snow Land, Michigan.
How would you wear this Fashionista’s scarf? The way you answer that question reflects on your wrapping style. My advice to you this week is to think about how you wear your scarves. Think about what you pair them with, what colors you wear them with and how you wrap them; now challenge that. Try out new ways to wear the scarves in your life. It is easy to fall into a routine and recite our favorite outfits week in and week out. This includes how we wear our scarves. However, this Fashionista shook something loose in my head. Now I want to find new ways to wear, wrap and style my favorite accessory, and I challenge you to do the same. This week, be inspired by someone else’s wrapping style and have a little fun with your own.
