STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Winter Blues

December 26th, 2016 at 2:00am

The alarm for your 7:45 a.m. lecture blares in your ears. Slowly but surely, you pick up your phone only to realize you have five minutes to get ready for the day. In a mad dash, you throw on whatever sweatshirt is on the ground, pull on yesterday’s leggings, lace up a pair of beat up sneakers and rush out the door. It’s cold, you’re tired, and you want to try, but this will have to do. However, it doesn’t always have to be this way. Yes, it is possible to be cute and comfortable during finals week.

The color blue doesn’t have to be for just the warmer months; it can easily be worn throughout the colder seasons, too. This Fashionista stayed true to her girly style by pairing a floral swing dress with tall brown boots, making sure her frilled socks peeked out. To keep her legs warm, her cozy leggings did just the trick. The black compliments the blue tones in her dress and makes her baby blue scarf pop, which is the centerpiece of her look. Keeping things loose and layered is the perfect choice for those long hours in the library or waiting in line at the testing center. Not to mention pulling pieces like this together requires minimal effort.

My Fashionista says, “During finals week I tend to turn to looser, more comfortable pieces. I want to make sure I’m comfortable during my tests. But, I always like to look nice because it makes me feel more awake and ready to take on anything!” I totally agree with her on this. I agree with her even more, though, when she said, “When I’m not worried about what I look like, I am more confident and focus more on my tests/presentations.” Right on!

If you’re not a huge fan of dresses during finals, or at all for that matter, don’t be afraid to try something new. It’s so easy to throw on whatever and go out when it’s cold and you’re tired, but opting for something other than sweats or leggings will help you to feel more confident and prepared. Try pairing a knit turtleneck with black jeans, ankle boots and a camel coat for a professional yet comfortable look. Or, if you just can’t seem to part with your beloved sweatshirt, pair it with a leather jacket, vintage inspired jeans and sneakers for low-key skater vibes.
