We’ve all heard the cardinal rule of fashion: no white pants before Memorial Day or after Labor Day. If you abide by this rule, that’s fine, but I firmly believe that fashion shouldn’t be restricted to a day. White pants should not be limited to only looking great for a few months out of the year. That’s like saying grilled cheese is only good in the winter and we all know that’s not true!
Just because someone a long time ago said no white pants before Memorial Day doesn’t mean the rule can’t change. I am in favor of the rule of wearing white pants when it’s appropriate, and with this beautiful weather coming our way over the next few weeks it’s time to celebrate with bright white.
This Fashionista shows how white pants can be worn just before the weather gets really warm. She wears her bright white as capris, which I think is the best way to wear white pants. Because white pants are summer-ish, wearing them as capris makes them look better with the current season. This Fashionista also keeps white pants from looking out of place by pairing them with a purple, thick knit sweater and thin gray vest. Instead of pairing her white pants with a bright summer top, like it is usually done during the summer season, she uses her sweater and vest to make the look weather-appropriate. I also love vests at this time of year because it prevents you from bulking up in a jacket or being too cold with no jacket.
This Fashionista accessorizes with perfectly half-up curly hair, an eye-catching chunky gray and black necklace and simple white sandals with a silver chain detail. I love wearing gladiator sandals in the spring and summer. They give my feet a break from bulky boots of the winter, and they always look cute with capris in the spring and summer.
For this season, I think you should try out the white pants look, even if you wait until after Memorial Day! But, the weather is beautiful now so take advantage of it. The white pants may even give you wishful thinking for the warm weeks to come. I recommend trying white pixie pants; they are tailored capris.
Happy spring everyone, and have fun with this week’s style advice!
