STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: White Sneakers

The white sneaker trend took over last year, and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere for 2016. Among other things, adidas’’ marketing strategy to re-launch their Stan Smith sneaker may have started this trend. The shoe has been around for over 50 years and has made quite the comeback. Not only did their marketing strategy work, but it also brought light to a lot of other classic white sneakers, like ConverseKeds and Vans.

The awesome thing about the trend is how versatile it is. It can be paired with pants, shorts, skirts and dresses. This Fashionista paired them with a T-shirt dress, a military jacket  and minimal jewelry. The simplicity in her outfit makes it wearable for anyone and easy to put together. What I love about this is how trendy she looks, but also how comfortable that outfit must be. Georgia State’s campus is in the middle of the city and a lot of walking is often involved to get from one classroom building to another. The sneaker trend is ideal for us that want to remain fashionable but need comfort for a lot of walking, and this Fashionista has taken full advantage of the best of both worlds with her outfit.

We can’t forget the main thing about this trend; they’re white! What doesn’t go with white? Not to mention that the all-white everything style is also hitting hard right now, and this just enhances it. I have definitely jumped on the bandwagon when it comes to this sneaker trend and probably wear my white Keds a little too much. The shoes go very well with the cuffed pant look, too. Any way you wear them, it’s a comfortable and wearable trend for everyone.

Let’s face it; it’s impossible to keep those white shoes perfectly clean. My heart breaks a little every time my shoes get scuffed or stained in any way. The key, I’ve learned the hard way, is to maintain the stains on the shoe. It might seem tedious but once the stains and dirt piles up, it’s half impossible to go back to an absolutely white shoe. Another mistake I’ve made with past shoes is throwing them in the washer. All that did for me was turn the rubber soles an awful yellowish color. Regardless, I’m sure Pinterest and YouTube have tons of hack so that you can style on in your clean, white sneakers!
