STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: When In Doubt, Flannel It Out

In school, they’ve always told us before we take a test, “when in doubt, pick C.” But why? Was it because the answer was always C? Was it because C just looked the most appealing? Or was it because C was just the emergency answer that could probably save us from choosing the wrong answer? Whatever it may have been, we went with it. Whenever I didn’t know an answer, I chose C. But does the same rule apply to fashion? When in doubt, what do I wear? A flannel? I believe so!

A plaid flannel can take the most simple and basic outfit to the next level. Plaid has this power to make it seem as if you’ve worked so hard to put your outfit together. For example, a basic black tank top dress. What can you wear with that? But you’re running late for class and traffic is tragic and you don’t want to look basic. What should you pick out from your closet? A simple flannel will suffice. Throw on a flannel on top of your tank dress and put on some sneakers and jet! That simple two-piece outfit looks so much more than what it actually is. You got this question correct. By not knowing what to chose and running out of time, you picked the quickest thing that not only saved you time but also took your basic outfit to new heights in just three seconds.

This Fashionista also picked a plaid flannel to spice up her simple outfit in a short amount of time. It did her justice. She is wearing a cropped white sleeveless turtleneck, with distressed jeans and a monochromatic flannel tied around her waist for added aesthetics. She finished her look off with a small cross-body bag from Steve Madden and her cutout sandals from Traffic. No accessories were needed.

Picture her look without the flannel. She would look pretty basic, correct? Sometimes we don’t want to look basic, but because we’re in such a rush most of the time we forget or have serious brain-fart moments while standing in front of our closets, looking dazed and confused about what to wear. In reality, all we have to do is go back to the basics and throw on a flannel. It’s simple and quick. Plus we always end up looking cute and effortless.

What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I think that clothes are an extension of oneself and whenever they choose what they want to wear, they should ask themselves ‘What do I want to tell the world today and how do I express that through my clothing?'”
